Podcasting


Definition:

A podcast is a series of audio files that can be made available for users to subscribe to and download to their computer or portable media playback device. The term podcast refers to audio files, but it often is used to include video files as well. In education, teacher and student created podcasts can play a valuable role for previewing, scaffolding, extending and refining, and reviewing.

  • Audacity - Audacity is a free, opensource application for Mac and PC that allows the user to create a high quality multitrack recording. Please view Audacity tutorials here.
  • Jing - Jing allows you to take a picture or record a short video of what is on your computer screen. This picture or video can then be shared with others in a variety of ways.
  • SMART Notebook Software - If your district uses SMART boards or other SMART products, this software is free to use. If not, then you can download a trail version. The software includes SMART Recorder, which is a fantastic application for recording screencasts. Available for Mac and PC.
  • PodOmatic - Use their free account to subscribe to podcasts, create your own podcast, and share your podcasts.
  • iTunes- A free digital jukebox that has an excellent library of podcasts and lectures via iTunes University
